Before You Commit

Typical timing is often 1–2 weeks; emergency call-outs from some companies. Ask:

• Are your flaggers certified as my state requires?
• Can you draw and submit the traffic control plan and permit?
• Does the setup follow the MUTCD and state supplement?
• Are you insured, and can I be added as additional insured?
• What is the minimum call-out and overtime rate?

Tips

• Flagger certification rules are set by each state, so check your DOT.
• Ask who is responsible for checking the setup each day and at night.
• Get the plan approved early, because road permits can take longer than the work.
