Flagging crews, cones, barricades, signs and work-zone traffic plans for road and utility jobs. Use these questions when you call or email, and put the same questions to each provider so the answers can be compared.
Questions to Ask
- Are your flaggers certified as my state requires?
- Can you draw and submit the traffic control plan and permit?
- Does the setup follow the MUTCD and state supplement?
- Are you insured, and can I be added as additional insured?
- What is the minimum call-out and overtime rate?
- Do you rent signs and barricades without a crew?
Practical Tips
- Flagger certification rules are set by each state, so check your DOT.
- Ask who is responsible for checking the setup each day and at night.
- Get the plan approved early, because road permits can take longer than the work.
Timing and Cost
Typical timing is often 1–2 weeks; emergency call-outs from some companies. On cost, expect a daily or hourly crew rate plus equipment rental. These are our planning notes rather than survey figures, so rely on the written quote you receive. You can line up the answers in the quote comparison tool and find local options on the Traffic Control & Flagging page.
