How Long Does CPR Certification Last?

How Long Is CPR Certification Good for?

Most CPR and first aid cards from the American Red Cross and American Heart Association are valid for two years. Check the date on your card and renew before it lapses. For workplace requirements, choose a course with an in-person skills session, because OSHA says online-only training is not sufficient for hands-on skills.

Online or In Person

Blended courses, with online lessons and an in-person skills check, are common and widely accepted. Fully online courses without practice are often not accepted by employers and licensing boards. Ask whoever requires your card first.

As a planning range, about $50–$120 per person, and group classes on site are usually quoted per class. This is our assumption, not survey data.

When OSHA Expects Training

If no clinic or hospital is near the workplace, someone must be trained to give first aid, under 1910.151(b). Some industries have specific CPR rules, such as electric power. Find CPR classes near you, and see the first aid kit guide.

General information, not legal advice. Rules change and State Plan states may differ, so confirm with the current standard or your state agency.
